OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) -

A well-known Ocean Springs homeowner now knows where his permit to operate a bed and breakfast stands. The planning commission turned down Scott and Trinity Walker's application to operate a B&B from their home. But their attorney, Billy Guice, said the planning commission is only there to make recommendations. The final decision is in the hands of the board of aldermen.

The Walkers first filed an application for the permit back in spring of 2016. Their attorney said each time it's come up for discussion, it's been tabled. Scott Walker said he was permitted to proceed with renting out the house, while their application was pending.

Last month, some of his East Beach Boulevard neighbors attended a board of alderman meeting to voice their concerns over having a bed and breakfast in their neighborhood. Guice said the decision is still good news, because they've finally made some headway.

"Now we can give our notice of appeal tomorrow, get the application going with the board of alderman and I think we'll get favorable treatment at that time," said Guice.

The board of aldermen, Guice said, will most likely hear the appeal in early March. As we previously reported, at that meeting last month, leaders decided to wait before making changes to the city's bed and breakfast ordinance.
