PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - The Pass Christian Lady Pirates captured the Region 8-4A regular season title, posting 7 wins and 1 loss, one game in front of the Moss Point Lady Tigers.

Head coach Greta Ainsworth ran her 18 and 10 Lady Pirates through a spirited practice session on Monday.

Coach Ainsworth said, "We're back at zero-zero.  Everybody is a contender.  We're definitely in a tough District.  It's going to be a battle to the end."

Pass Christian has won 6 straight games and ten of their last eleven.

"Daysia Dedeaux is our leading scorer and she's also our leading rebounder and is pretty close to leading in steals, "said Ainsworth.  "She's made a huge impact on our team."

Dedeaux is just one of two seniors on the team.

Dedeaux said ,"We play together and defense and we just have fun playing with each other."

Ainsworth commented on the other girls who have contribute to the Lady Pirates success.  "We also have Cayla Obillo and Maliyah Bullard , who are next in line, leading scorers, "stated Ainsworth.  "Tori Williams and Ashanti Darensbourg can't be left off because the play a major role."

Darensbourg said, "This team has come a long way.  We're improved tremendously, having such young players on our team.  But also the chemistry that we have together, it goes a long way."

There's plenty of young talent on the Lady Pirates roster..., 9 freshmen, 5 sophomores and 2 juniors.

Pass Christian opens the Region 8-4A Tournament 4 p.m. Thursday, facing Tuesday's winner between East Central and home standing Vancleave.
