BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The man accused of murdering a Biloxi Waffle House waitress won't be tried until May.
Johnny Mount's first-degree murder case is postponed until a psychological evaluation is complete. His trial was scheduled to start Monday.
Mount is accused of killing 52-year-old Julie Brightwell in November 2015 after she asked him not to smoke inside a Waffle House restaurant on Hwy. 90.
Brightwell was an eight-year Waffle House employee, and Mount was reportedly a frequent customer at the Hwy. 90 location.
Investigators said Mount left the restaurant after Brightwell asked him to put out a lit cigarette, returned with a handgun, and shot her in the head one time. Brightwell was pronounced dead at Merit Health Biloxi.
Mount has remained behind bars on a $2 million bond since his arrest. His new trial date is May 1.
