BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The new Blind Tiger restaurant in Biloxi will open at 4 p.m. Friday.
It's the latest addition to the Great Lawn at Harrah's Gulf Coast, and owner Thomas Genin is convinced the East Biloxi location represents something special.
"We've already met so many people that have walked over from the hotel, and locals have poured in here watching us build this place. You know, if you look around, the view. Deer Island. Right behind you can see clear into the Gulf of Mexico," said Genin.
Just a few short years ago, Harrah's Great Lawn was a construction site eyesore; covered with building remnants of the old Margaritaville casino project which was abandoned.
But, casino executives had a vision for an attractive outdoor amenity.
"The great lawn right now is everything that we envisioned it to be. It's definitely a community space. We wanted to bring entertainment, bring something here that wasn't necessarily available in this region in terms of an outdoor event venue," said Harrah's Gulf Coast marketing supervisor, Shay Smith. "Be able to invite the community out here for various events, Coast concerts, and now a new dining amenity,"
The evolution of the Great Lawn, along with the addition of this new restaurants, blends perfectly with Mayor Andrew "FoFo" Gilich's vision of drawing more people to the waterfront in Biloxi.
"This little part of the tip of Biloxi down here on the point is special man. It's not going to be a hard sell," noted Genin. "People are about to start showing up," said Genin.
The Great Lawn will be the site for more music and outdoor entertainment later in the year. Harrah's Gulf Coast is now finalizing the line-up for its 2017 concert series.
