It looks like the state legislature is going to do the right thing when it comes to money coming to the state from BP. BP will pay Mississippi $750 million over 17 years for economic damages caused by the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil disaster in the Gulf.
The state senate approved a measure to put the money into a new Gulf Coast Restoration fund. We agree the economic damage was done here on the coast and talk of sharing dollars with other sections of the state is wrong.
The state house should also approve this plan to spend the money on projects that grow the coastal economy. What's good for the coast will also, by extension, help the state economy. That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to email@example.com.
