The Mississippi State women's basketball team is ranked No. 3 in the USA Today poll & No. 4 in the AP Women's Top-25 poll. There's no denying that Head coach Vic Schaefer has guided the Lady Bulldogs into the national limelight.
Mississippi State hired Vic Schaefer to rebuild the women's basketball team five years ago.
The veteran coach devised a game plan, a blue-print that would propel Mississippi State into a championship caliber program.
It didn't take long and Mississippi State fans have responded. Prior to this season, over 209-thousand fans attended home games in Starkville. That was more than the previous 10 seasons combined.
Schaefer has Mississippi State ranked No. 4 in the nation, posting 23 wins and only one loss. The Lady Bulldogs are on course to top the 28 single season win total set by the 2015-2016 MSU team.
Winning breeds more success and Schaefer has Mississippi State women's basketball on solid ground.
Schaefer said, "People ask all the time: What have we done? Here's what we've done. We got great players and great kids that play the game and honor the game the right way. That's why they're here. That's why people come see us play. They get as excited about a charge than they do a three pointer."
Mississippi State entertains Vanderbilt 8 p.m. Thursday in Starkville.
Fans have responded and you can expect Mississippi State to crack the NCAA Tournament for a third consecutive season. Last year the Lady Bulldogs reached the Sweet 16, this season, their goal is to reach the top.
