The 16 and 7 Harrison Central Red Rebels basketball team is back on top, earning the No. 1 seed and first-round bye in the upcoming Region 8-6A tournament set for Biloxi High School beginning February 14.
Coach Boo Hardy has his Red Rebels playing their best basketball at the right time, with the playoffs set to tip-off next Tuesday.
Coach Hardy has the attention of his players, resulting in seven wins over the last eight games.
"They're starting to believe in one another, they're playing well, "said Hardy.
Junior guard Dajon Whitworth provides 14.6 points per game. He's the Red Rebels top gun.
Hardy said, "Dajon made the North-South Junior Basketball game which will be played in March."
Whitworth said, "My team, they're helping me, encouraging me if I've got the shot to take it."
6-4 junior Daquan Perkins provides more offensive firepower, draining 12.2 points an outing. Anthony Barnett, Josh Green and Isaiah Steele have all
contributed to the Red Rebels success.
While Meridian is the favorite to win the Class 6A State Championship, coach Hardy says don't count out members from Region 8-6A just yet.
"This year 6A is wide open, "Hardy stated. "Everybody is talking about Meridian and Brandon, but one of the teams, two or three of the teams can actually be in Jackson."
Harrison Central, Biloxi and Gulfport are all highly capable of making their way to the State Tournament in Jackson.
