GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Fire officials in Harrison County are continuing to monitor an area of woods that burned for three days before finally being extinguished Saturday night.
Harrison County Fire Chief Pat Sullivan says a total of 465 acres burned on Turner Road, near 28th Street. The fire, which began Thursday, reached all the way over to Bosarge Road. Four homes were endangered during the fire.
Although the blaze is out, crews are keeping an eye on the area to ensure that it does not re-ignite. However, officials say there is no longer any immediate danger.
