West Harrison Lady Canes get another shot at claiming the Class 5A State Soccer Title

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

The West Harrison Lady Canes have won back-to-back Class 5A South State soccer titles.  It's a great accomplishment, but the Lady Canes know their mission isn't complete, until they can bring home the State Trophy.  West Harrison must torpedo defending state champion Oxford to make their dream come true.

Coach Todd Moniz had his 16-4 and 2 Lady Canes out on the practice field...determined to fine tune their game plan and complete the mission in Saturday's title game.

West Harrison gets a second-chance, having dropped a 2-1 decision to Oxford in the championship game one year ago.

It won't be easy.  Undefeated Oxford has reeled-off 18 consecutive wins, led by freshman sensation Morgan O'Connor who has 44 goals and 16 assists this season.

Coach Moniz said, "Having been there gives us a little more confidence, a little more understanding of what we need to do this time around to be successful."

Junior Haley Kim is a spark plug for the Lady Canes, an aggressive player who battles tooth-and-nail.  She leads West Harrison with 19 goals and 7 assists.

Kim said, "We have a better knowledge of the game and I think we're working together a lot better.  We really want to do it this year.  We have heart."

Senior Megan Sexton has plenty of heart and loads of talent.  She has the ability to set-up her teammates and can also find the net.

"Being a senior I just want to come out with a bang this year, " said Sexton.  "So, it means a lot to me that my team is with me and I love them with everything in me.  So, it makes me want to win more."

Teamwork will be the key in upsetting undefeated Oxford and there's no denying the Lady Canes are highly motivated in reaching the top of the mountain.
