After law enforcement found nearly eight pounds of cocaine during a traffic stop, a Houston, Texas man is facing charges.
According to Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell, a deputy pulled over Luis Maldonado near Creek Road on I-10 just before 9 a.m. Feb. 7. When the South Mississippi Metro Enforcement Team arrived on the scene to assist, agents found a bag of 'white powder substance' in Maldonado's pocket.
After receiving permission to search the vehicle, a drug K-9 signaled deputies to the extended cab portion of the truck, where they located three squares wrapped in black plastic tape.
The street value of the drugs is estimated to be $81,000.
Maldonado has been charged with aggravated trafficking in controlled substances, and is being held at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center on a $30,000 bond.
