SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - It's against the law to drive continuously in the left lane on interstate highways. Now there's a state proposal to fine drivers who spend too much time in the left lane of other state roads. We think this is a bad idea.
Who is to decide that a driver should not have been in the left lane. Drive time traffic in metro areas fills all the lanes. If you want to eventually turn left and not miss your turn, drivers must be in the sacred left lane long before the planned turn.
Should the driver get a ticket? No.
We can see this forbidden left lane law causing more problems than it solves in congested areas and even creating accidents for last minute left lane changers. Our police have more important things to do than to patrol for those lingering too long in the left lane.
That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to email@example.com.
