PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - The Little Hats, Big Hearts program is raising awareness about infant congenital heart defects at Singing River Health System.
The American Heart Association hosts the program every year. The tiny red hat serves as a reminder of the importance of early detection and treatment of heart defects.
"The idea is to catch any congenital issue that could cause these children to have issues in their heart," said pediatric hospitalist Dr. Tyler Sexton.
Newborn and premature babies born at Singing River Hospital in the month of February will receive a red hat. February is American Heart Month. Local volunteers provide the caps.
