OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) -

Mississippi River Shark is headed to Ocean Springs. But don't worry you're not in any danger. It's a new movie being shot in the City of Discovery. Monday night, city leaders approved a location agreement for the film.

It's the small town feel, the locally-owned restaurants, and the beautiful scenery that attracted the producer of an upcoming shark film to shoot in Ocean Springs.

"I shot two movies in Gulfport in August and had a really great time. Really great people. Great setting," said movie producer Daniel Lewis. "This movie, in particular, had a need for more of a river look and had a lot of scenes at a marina. And I was exploring the coast and stumbled upon Ocean Springs and thought it was a beautiful place and it had a lot of non-chain restaurants. The people there all seem great."

Those who travel the harbor often said they can see why he chose Ocean Springs.

"Ocean Springs? Oh, because it's a small town. It's a small town feeling you know? Take away Highway 90 and I-10 and you've got yourself a little village," said Tony Kost of British Columbia.

In the location agreement, MRS Movie LLC. requested to shoot several locations in the city which include the harbor, parts of Front Beach, and the Shearwater Bridge, where General Pershing Avenue meets Shearwater Drive.

"It passed unanimously. We're happy to work with the film company. This agreement simply defines the city's responsibilities and the movie company's responsibilities, filming dates, so that all our departments - fire department, public works, police department - will be prepared to work with the movie company in whatever capacity they need to," Ocean Springs Alderman Mike Impey explained.

Lewis said both practical and special effects will be used to create the shark. And several Gulf Coast residents will be cast in the movie. Anyone interested in being an extra in the film should email mrsfilm2017@gmail.com.

Filming will begin February 13-25. The feature film will air later this year on the Syfy Network.
