JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Two suspects reportedly involved in a three-state crime spree were arrested in Jackson County earlier this week.

Sheriff Mike Ezell said investigators believe the California couple stole vehicles in Arkansas and Mississippi and credit cards in Alabama.

John Navolt, 38, and Tamika Raley, 36, were arrested Tuesday night at a hotel on Washington Ave. north of Ocean Springs. Both are charged with receiving stolen property, motor vehicle theft, and possession of a stolen firearm.

Ezell said investigators started looking at the case Tuesday after a D'Iberville store manager reported the couple used a stolen credit card at the store and then returned to shoplift a few hours later.

The manager followed the couple to a hotel in St. Martin and reported their located to the sheriff's department, Ezell said. Deputies found the truck the suspects were driving, but the couple was nowhere to be found.

Ezell said a search of the truck turned up several stolen credit cards belonging to different people and boxes of ammunition. Deputies also discovered the truck was reported stolen out of Arkansas.

Later that night, Ezell said a car was stolen from a St. Martin apartment complex, and the owner was able to get a look at the suspects. The description allowed deputies to identify the suspects as Navolt and Raley.

Deputies were then able to find the couple at a hotel and arrest them.

Ezell said authorities in Arkansas have placed a hold on Navolt and Raley, and police in Mobile, AL are working to link the stolen credit cards to auto burglaries in their city.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected for the couple, Ezell said.
