WOOLMARKET, MS (WLOX) - The Mississippi Highway Patrol and Harrison County Sheriff's Department are on the lookout for a man who reportedly ran into the woods during a traffic stop on I-10 near the Woolmarket exit.
MHP spokesman Chase Elkins said troopers pulled over a vehicle for speeding around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Elkins said two people were taken into custody, but one man jumped out of the vehicle and ran into the woods.
"While the trooper was talking to the driver, the back seat passenger was acting kind of nervous and eventually took off into the woods," said Elkins.
Authorities deployed a helicopter to help with the search and units on the ground also combed the area until dark.
The suspect has been described as a Hispanic male wearing a dark shirt and blue jeans. Elkins said the man weighs around 190 pounds and stands 5'8".
Residents in the area should keep their garages closed and their doors locked, Elkins said. Anyone who sees anything suspicious should call 911 immediately.
