BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - She was a legal legend and a Biloxi icon. Tuesday morning, Clare Sekul Hornsby died at the age of 95.
For 71 years, Hornsby practiced law. Her practice in Biloxi was established with her brother in 1945.
Hornsby was a trailblazer for women. She was one of the first women in Mississippi to own her own law firm and the first female president of the Harrison County Bar Association. In 2016, she was inducted into the Ole Miss Law School Hall of Fame.
Besides her stellar legal career, Hornsby was also very active in the community. She was a member of numerous organizations and won scores of awards. She was even the first female president of the Biloxi Lions Club.
