HATTIESBURG, MS (WLOX) - Dozens of people in Hattiesburg have been left without homes after a tornado blew through their neighborhood overnight.
"I dealt with the blizzards in the snow. This is devastating, it's no words for it. Everything just gone within a matter of minutes," said a victim who did not want to be named.
Edward Street in Downtown Hattiesburg was scattered with debris Saturday morning; homeowners still in shock.
"You felt the tornado jump off our house and hit other houses down there. Every house from there on out was tore up all the way,"said Rasheed Hinton.
Now, those who live on Edward Street are trying to put the pieces of their lives back together.
"I'm scared. I'm serious, I'm nervous. I'm thinking about all these people that were sleep in the middle the night when the storm came through. I know a lot of people that lost their homes and they were inside,"said Hinton.
Wandering alongside those people are stray dogs, desperately searching for their owners. One woman says quick thinking is the only reason she survived the devastation.
"I went to the bathroom and I heard something that sounded like a train. I call my husband and I said Nate, I hear a train. So we went outside on the porch and you could just see it and that's when I was like let's go, get in the closet," said one storm victim.
"We got a rebuild. Help our neighbors rebuild, make sure everyone else is all right today. We have to stay strong for each other out here," said Hinton.
So far, four fatalities have been reported.
