Watching for flash flooding Thursday

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for parts of the WLOX area in South Mississippi through Thursday evening.

The counties affected are: Pearl River, Hancock, Harrison, and Jackson.

Heavy rainfall of two to five inches are expected in the affected area, according to the National Weather Service.

"All of the model information we've been looking at suggests lesser rainfall," said WLOX First Alert Meteorologist. "But, based on what we have observed the showers and storms doing on radar, this morning, it appears possible that a heavy rain event could unfold for parts of the Flash Flood Watch area."

The National Weather Service stated that ponding of water and flooding in low lying and poorly drained areas could become an issue if enough heavy rain is received on Thursday.

Outside of the heavy rain threat, there will also be a low threat for severe weather on Thursday as well, with low threats for damaging winds and tornadoes.
