BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - A Biloxi seafood market will likely have to pay hundreds of dollars in fines after receiving citations Tuesday from MDMR Marine Patrol officers.
MDMR officials said Captain Ben Seafood Market on Oak St. was cited for having fish caught by recreational fisherman and oysters without the proper documentation.
Melissa Scallan, spokeswoman for the MDMR, said Marine Patrol officers cited the market for possession of recreationally harvested finfish in a commercial establishment and possession of illegal oysters. The fines for these violations range between $100 to $500.
Scallan said officers seized seven sheepshead and 12 trays of quick-frozen oysters from the business.
Scallan noted this is the first time Captain Ben Seafood Market has been cited.
