JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Two kids playing in the woods of Jackson County made a startling discovery Sunday morning: an old naval artillery round.

Sheriff Mike Ezell said a resident who lives near Palmetto Point Park, about half a mile south of Ocean Springs High School, saw the kids playing with the round and called the sheriff’s department. Deputies then called the Biloxi Police Department’s Bomb Squad to remove the device.

The sheriff said it was an unfired, intact round with the detonator tip still in it. Officials don't know how old the device is or how long it may have been in the woods.
