VANCLEAVE, MS (WLOX) - Investigators now know how a Vancleave murder victim died over the weekend. Autopsy results show Elizabeth Corene Jones, 30, was stabbed multiple times and also had blunt force injuries to her neck.
Jones' body was found in her home of Ridgeland Rd. the night of Saturday, Jan. 7.
"When deputies arrived, they quickly discovered there was something going on that didn't seem right," Sheriff Mike Ezell told WLOX News Now earlier this week.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said teamwork between departments and solid police work led to the arrest of Brandon Colby Smith, 32. He was picked up by Gautier police Sunday morning for paraphernalia possession and public drunkenness, according to Ezell.
Smith is charged with Jones' murder. His bond was set at $250,000 as he waits for the case to be presented to a grand jury.
Ezell said Smith and Jones were acquaintances, but investigators are still working to determine what led to the killing.
