In Ocean Springs this weekend, garage sale lovers can hunt for bargains and help support a ministry.
The Community Care Network provides transitional housing and life skills support for female inmates.
That group is hosting a large rummage sale at a former furniture store building.
"Right now we're having this giant yard sale to try and raise money for the ministry," said Diane Easley, as she sorted through some clothing racks.
She knows raising money is essential for mission work. The goods that fill the former furniture store are a means of supporting the mission.
Easley and other volunteers are dedicated to prison ministry. Their mission begins inside the jail, then provides critical support when the women transition back to the "real world".
"The transitional program is not about housing them. It's about providing them the skills they need when they get on the outside. And yes, we've seen some incredible success stories. But in order to expand that program and make it available for more people, we have to expand the base of the ministry," Easley explained.
Volunteers are busy donating and organizing used goods for the Friday-Saturday sale. Gill Ormes dropped off a desk and table.
"We feel like it's a good effort and we had some extra stuff and figured they could probably use it," said Ormes.
Wallace Easley appreciates the support. He's Diane's husband, who supports her prison outreach while keeping busy with his own ministry program that transports food for various "feed the needy" programs.
"There's just some things in life you know you're supposed to do. And the Lord just planted it on our heart; her the jail ministry, and with me it's the food ministry," said Wallace Easley.
Garage sale lovers are invited to be active partners this weekend, supporting the need by buying the bargains.
The sale will be held Friday and Saturday from 7am until 4pm.
It's located in the shopping center at Highway 90 and Bechtel Boulevard in Ocean Springs, next door to World Gym.
