Armed robbery suspect arrested after crash, accomplice still at large

D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - One armed robbery suspect was taken into custody late Wednesday night after reportedly leading police on a high-speed chase, but his accomplice is still at large.

Capt. Marty Griffin, with the D'Iberville Police Department, said two masked men holding handguns walked into the Dollar Tree on D'Iberville Blvd. around 10:15 p.m. and demanded money.

After getting cash from the store, at least one suspect fled the scene in a white Lexus. Officers spotted the vehicle leaving the area and attempted a traffic stop.

Griffin said the driver did not stop and headed south on I-110 into Biloxi before circling back around and getting on I-10 eastbound.

The chase ended with a crash when the vehicle flipped into the median near the 48 mile marker in Jackson County.

Griffin identified the driver as Leglennon Leroy Belt, of Hoover, AL. He was arrested at the scene of the crash and charged with armed robbery. His bond was set at $300,000. Griffin said Belt was also wanted in Mobile County, AL for first degree robbery.

D'Iberville police tell us they do not know if the second suspect ever got into the vehicle after the robbery or if that person escaped the wreckage before police arrived. Police have not provided a description or any details about this second suspect.

If you have any information that could help identify the suspect, please call D'Iberville police at 228-396-4252 or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-787-5898.
