SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Each year as the State Legislative Session gets underway, the biggest chore at hand is setting a new annual spending budget that begins in July. But before that, at this halfway point in the state's current fiscal year, lawmakers can change the current spending plan.
With all the needed approvers in place in Jackson, every year at this time, the various departments of state government seize the opportunity and deliver a new plan often asking for more tax dollars added to their current approved budget. And often many of these requests are approved.
This year is no different. Medicaid wants another $75 million, the Treasurer's Office wants $14 million, finance and administration wants $10 million and the list goes on.
Before the State Legislature approves more spending, we urge lawmakers to consider this; be frugal, do your best to live within your budget. Taxpayers often face increased expenses, and make hard decisions on where their money goes. We know it's not easy, but the taxpayers do it every day.
That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to email@example.com.
