(RNN) – NASCAR star Carl Edwards will not race for Joe Gibbs Racing in 2017 to “pursue interests outside of racing,” Fox Sports reported in an exclusive story. The 37-year-old driver has been with JGR since 2015.

Fox Sports broadcasts NASCAR races.

Joe Gibbs Racing would not comment, but Fox reported that it will hold a Wednesday news conference announcing that Daniel Suarez will replace Edwards as the driver of the No. 19 Monster Series Toyota. Suarez is the current NASCAR XFINITY Series champion, according to the JGR website

Toyota Racing Development also declined comment.

Edwards began his NASCAR career in 2004, driving the No 99 Roush Fenway Racing Ford. He stayed with Roush until he joined JGR in 2015.

He has been a consistent top racer, but has not won a Premier Series Championship. But he came close twice, in 2008 when he finished second to Jimmie Johnson, and in 2011, when he tied Tony Stewart but lost on a tiebreaker.

Edwards has won 28 races and has 25 top 5 finishes and has finished in the top 10 225 times. He has won 22 poles in 445 career starts. He has career earnings of $80.4 million.
