NEW ORLEANS (AP) _ Daniel Boyd singled home the tie-breaking runs as third-seeded South Florida defeated seventh-seeded Southern Mississippi 7-4 in the Conference USA Tournament Saturday and advanced to the championship game. The Bulls (32-28) defeated the Golden Eagles (27-32) 6-4 earlier Saturday to force the elimination game. South Florida will play either Tulane or Memphis in the championship Sunday. The game was tied at four until Boyd hit a two-run single in the top of the sixth. The Bulls pulled further ahead with a run in the eighth on an RBI single by Myron Leslie. South Florida starter Jason Bartz (4-2) got the win, pitching six innings. He gave up eight hits and four runs, walking one and striking out nine. John Gorham pitched three scoreless innings for his second save. Stephen Castleman (2-6) got the loss, giving up six hits and two runs in three innings. Anthony Rawson gave up one run in three innings. Starter Charlie Rogers gave up eight hits and four runs in three innings. Dusty Haley and Rusty McDaniels had RBI singles for the Golden Eagles and Jeff Cook hit a two-run single in the fifth.
