BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The sunrise over the Mississippi Sound's eastern horizon will be a distant memory by the time 2017 begins. A series of strong storms will push toward Mississippi. They get here shortly after New Year's Eve festivities end. And they'll dump large amounts of rain on South Mississippi. Forecasters expect three to five inches of rain over the area between early Sunday morning and Tuesday. There's a chance higher amounts will be possible so the WLOX First Alert Weather team has not ruled out the small risk for localized flash flooding.
The WLOX First Alert Weather team has called both Sunday and Monday ALERT days because of the expected deluge of rain that will fall.
