BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - With more and more devices in homes requiring the use of internet, fast and reliable connections are important. That's why Cable One is launching GigaONE on Monday, offering 40 times faster speed than the average speed currently offered in the U.S.
"It's called the GigaONE level of service. It's 1,000 megabytes per second or one gig, and it has 1.1 terabyte usage plan, which means that's how many 1,100 gigabytes are available to subscribers in that plan," said Cable One General Manager Greg Capranica.
Compare that to the minimum speed Cable One offers, which is just 15 megabytes per second. With the GigaONE plan, downloading a full length, high definition movie would take a customer just 60 seconds, and for about 100 songs, it would take about three to five seconds.
"It will definitely improve your experience if you're a gamer in terms of the elimination of delays and any kind of buffering that you might experience with a slower speed," said Capranica.
He said the plan has already been rolled out in several other cities in the U.S. So far, the feedback has been positive.
"We're delivering the gigabyte service residentially through our HFC broadband network, which is a hybrid fiber coax, which is a combination of fiber optics
and coaxial cable," Capranica explained.
The GigaONE service is priced at $175 per month. It will require a new modem, which customers can choose to buy their own or they can lease from Cable One.
GigaONE will be available to everyone currently in Cable One's service area. Workers will begin installing the package on Tuesday to those who choose to upgrade to the new plan.
