Church members brave frigid temperatures for live Nativity scene tradition

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - It was a chilly night to tell the story of the birth of baby Jesus in Jackson County. The tale was told Monday night by members of Escatawpa Baptist Church.

The church reenacted what some call the greatest story ever told, the Nativity story.

The live nativity scene is a tradition that's been going on at Escatawpa Baptist Church since 1954. People could drive around the scene and hear festive music while witnessing the actors standing totally still in 40-degree weather.

"Well, we have hot chocolate, but they are layered. They love to do it. Like I said, it's a beautiful thing that we do every year, and they love to do it. So cold or not, we're here," said Nativity scene director Katie Tanner.

The church also gave gifts to those who drove through the live nativity scene.
