GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - With Christmas just one week away, some shoppers are still hitting stores shopping for the holiday.
"Every year I have it together, but this year to play it safe I got some extra stuff at the last minute," said shopper Gretchen Baber. "I know a lot of people do last minute shopping and I like to avoid the crowds, but I got sucked in this year."
Later on in the week, many stores are expected to be flooded with last-minute shoppers looking for that special gift. Baber picked up something for her stepson.
"I got a GoPro and I was going for the Beats, but I got the Skullcandy wireless headphones," said Baber.
However, Mary Yates had another reason for late shopping - her daughter's home burned down, exactly a week ago.
"They were out camping and they got a call from someone saying that their house was on fire this past Saturday night," said Yates. "They lost everything."
Now she's trying to give the gift of memories that will never die.
"She lost all of the pictures from when the kids were small, and so I'm just trying to replace them on a digital frame," said Yates.
Regardless the gift or the reason for giving, many shoppers are hoping that someone reads their wish lists as well.
"I probably want some purses and watch; maybe some perfume," said Yates.
