MOBILE, AL (WLOX) - It was a warm welcome back to Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile for Donald Trump, who wanted to say thank you.
"If you don't mind, we're thanking the people of Alabama, and we're thanking the people of the South," Trump said to the crowd. "Because, boy, did we do well."
It was more than a year ago when he came to Mobile in the middle of a heated battle for the Republican nomination. Then, it drew about 30,000 fans, and possibly as many the second time around.
The final "Thank You" rally also drew first timers; like Emily Wagoner of Ocean Springs and her brother, Sebastian Hochule.
"This is the first time I've done something like this," Emily said. "Just coming with my brother to help support our new president elect. And, just looking forward to it."
Added Sebastian, "I'm just excited about the new year to come, new president, excited for the changes that are happening."
Vincent and Katrina Pachel came from their Gulfport home to witness history.
"I supported him because he wasn't a politician, he's a businessman," said Katrina. "I feel like our country, our government especially, needs somebody with strong leadership skills to help put our country back on track."
Some never thought they'd see the day come.
"I absolutely did not ever expect to be standing here a Trump rally after the election. I honestly didn't think he had a chance," said Vincent Pachel. "But I think it's just a reflection of all the people in this country wanting to see something different, and hope for the future."
Likewise, Lora Miller of Biloxi couldn't believe the outcome of the election, but was happy about the result.
"Never, no. I never thought he would be president," Miller said. "And when it got closer, and things got more heated up and everything, I got more excited about it and more excited about it. And I'm just glad to see the results."
