BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - With news earlier in the year of Biloxi Bishop Roger Morin's retirement, there's speculation on the Coast that a new bishop will soon be installed.
The speculation began Thursday when the Catholic Diocese of Biloxi sent out a news release saying a special announcement would be made Friday at 10:30 a.m.
Back in February, one month before he turned 75, Bishop Roger Morin submitted his resignation letter to the Vatican.
Serving as bishop since 2009, Morin is the third to serve the Catholic Diocese. The Diocese of Biloxi was created in 1977. Since then, Morin, Joseph Howze and Thomas Rodi have been installed as bishops who represent Catholics churches across 17 South Mississippi counties, serving 57,000 Catholics.
WLOX News Now is working to confirm the details about Friday's announcement.
