BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The completion date for the east Biloxi roadwork project is being pushed back again.
Originally scheduled to finish in August of 2017, the contract isn't expected to be completed until June 2018.
According to the City of Biloxi, in response to complaints about dust causing health hazards, a Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality study found no permit violations with air quality.
Following heavy rainfall recently that left many of the streets flooded, crews are making extra efforts to prevent future flooding.
"We've been sending the truck around cleaning some of the old drains out so we can have better water flow. In some of the areas there's standing water and that's due to some of the drains, but now what we're trying to do is at least get them cleaned out so we can have better quality of roads," said Biloxi councilman, Felix Gines.
Gines recently met with Sen.Thad Cochran's office in Washington about the road work. He says Cochran and the Environmental Protection Agency will be watching the progress of the work in East Biloxi.
