BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Biloxi police say the man seen allegedly beating a dog inside his truck turned himself in Tuesday morning.  Surveillance video capturing the controversial incident has caused outrage on the coast.

Biloxi police identified the suspect as Billy Swain, of Gulfport. Swain's court date has been set for Feb. 6, 2017.

A viewer tagged WLOX with the disturbing video showing a man putting a dog inside the cab of a truck then getting in himself. The man then begins punching and hitting something inside the truck.

The person who posted the video said the man is beating the dog, hitting the animal over and over, and even using some kind of instrument to strike. The reported abuse happened at a home in Biloxi on Friday night.

Maj. Mike Wills, with the Biloxi Police Department, tells us an officer interviewed the woman who posted the video online. Wills said the investigation began after the video came to their attention over the weekend.

A post on the Biloxi Police Department's Facebook page says animal control officers have signed an affidavit for animal cruelty and the suspect involved will be arrested. Tuesday morning the suspect walked into the Biloxi Police Department to turn himself in. His name has not been released.

Robin Cole Bosarge is involved with animal rescue organizations. She tells us the dog’s name is Albert. She said the incident happened outside her friend’s home.

Bosarge said what’s even more concerning is the abuse happened in the presence of an 11-year-old boy, who was visibly shaken by what he saw.
