GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) - What started as an act of kindness ended with a felony arrest in Gautier.

Gautier Police Sgt. Matt Hoggatt said it happened Sunday afternoon when Lt. Jeff Jensen stopped to help a stranded motorist on I-10 who had run out of gas.

Jensen drove the man to a nearby gas station but when they returned to his vehicle, they discovered they weren't alone.

"As I pulled up, another vehicle was pulling off and I noticed the broken glass on the ground," said Jensen.

Jensen saw a window on the truck was broken and several items were missing so he took off after the vehicle. Hoggatt said the suspects were pulled over near exit 68.

The driver, Stanley Phillips, 46, and Brandi Walker, 39, were both arrested. Hoggatt reports the suspect's vehicle was reported stolen in Jackson and Phillips was on parole. He was charged with auto burglary and Walker was charged with possession of stolen property.

Detectives are still sorting through a large amount of recovered property to determine how many additional burglary victims there are. At the time of the arrest, Officers had located a second victim from Gulfport who had also run out of gas on the interstate a few days before.
