PERKINSTON, MS (WLOX) - The first Sunday in December is this week and that means it's time for the annual Mississippi Bowl. The newly renovated A.L. May Stadium in Perkinston will be the location for the 2016 Mississippi Bowl set to kick off Sunday at 2 p.m.
No. 3 ranked East Mississippi tackles No. 13 Kilgore. This will be the third Mississippi Bowl for the Lions under head coach Buddy Stephens.
In 2013 and 2014, his Lions captured the Junior College National Championship at Biloxi High School Stadium with dominating wins over Georgia Military and Iowa Western.
East Mississippi has won 10 straight games after an opening season loss. Kilgore has posted 6 wins and 4 losses.
A number of major college coaches and assistants will be on hand for the game.. evaluating the talent.
Ladd Taylor, Vice President of the MGCCC campus in Perkinston said, "It's also good to remember that we've had players going on to the next level. They're going to be playing in the SEC. They're going to be playing Division I, II, four year universities. But we also have several guys in our league, they're getting ready to play their last college football game. We're excited about our speaker Friday night, coach Bret Bielema of Arkansas."
Tickets can be purchased through the game's website, MississippiBowl.com. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students. There are a limited number of chair back tickets in the main grandstand that are available for $20.
