SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality issued a water contact advisory Tuesday afternoon for Lakeshore Beach in Hancock County from Silver Slipper Casino east to Pointset Avenue.

The water advisories issued earlier for Shearwater Beach from Weeks Bayou east to Ashley Place in Ocean Springs, East Courthouse Road Beach from Courthouse Road east to Tegarden Road in Gulfport, Pascagoula Beach West from Oliver Street east to Westwood Street, and Pascagoula Beach East from Westwood Street east to Grand Oaks Drive remain in effect.

These beaches are not closed. But, MDEQ warns if you swim in these sections of the Mississippi Sound, the current high bacteria levels mean you have a higher chance of getting sick.

MDEQ will lift the advisories when water samples show that bacteria levels are safe for human contact again.
