Man in custody following Pascagoula stabbing death

PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - One man is dead following a late night stabbing in Pascagoula on Saturday.

According to authorities, police received a call shortly after 10:30 p.m. Nov. 26 in regards to a stabbing in the 3400 block of Short Cut Road in the Cambridge Park Apartments. When first responders arrived, 40-year-old Eddie Vergail Stanton, Sr. was found dead with a stab wound in the chest.

Police later determined that Stanton was stabbed to death by 45-year-old Carlton Jerome Gholders following an argument inside the apartment where both men lived.

Sgt. Doug Adams says Gholder and his girlfriend went to a party earlier that night. After they returned home, the girlfriend left with another friend. She told cops she received a phone call shortly after from Stanton, who is her nephew, saying that he had been stabbed by Gholder. Stanton died shortly after.

Gholder has been charged with murder and is being held at the Jackson County ADC.
