The controversial EdBuild contract with the Mississippi State Legislature was placed on the state's transparency website Monday night.

Earlier Monday, Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood sent a letter to legislative leaders saying the EdBuild contract is subject to the provisions of the Public Records Act. Hood says the contract should have been placed on the Transparency website within 14 days of execution.

Hood says the policy, recently adopted by the House, is not effective to prohibit publication of the EdBuild contract. He also says the Transparency Act would also supercede a similar rule the Senate is scheduled to consider November 23.

Later Monday afternoon, House Speaker Pro Tempore and the Senate President Pro Tempore released the following statement:

“When the agreement was approved in October, the terms of the Legislature’s contract with EdBuild to review school funding was shared with the public,” said Speaker Pro Tempore Rep. Greg Snowden and President Pro Tempore Sen. Terry Burton in a joint statement.

“Over the last four days as House and Senate leadership continued to study the issue, Legislative legal staff concluded the contract should be posted to the Transparency Mississippi website. The contract has been released to the Department of Finance and Administration to be posted on the Transparency Mississippi website.”
