PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - Marvin Brown and Eva Cheek call West Railroad Street in Pass Christian their place of business - and their home. Brown would rather spend his time carving sculptures, not dodging bullets.
"My wife and I were working late," Marvin said. "We stayed up kind of late and we heard a few gunshots. We thought maybe it was just a radio or something....we heard them in the direction of the park. But we don't know exactly what went on."
The couple lives next to where a 26-year-old man was shot while sitting in a car. Police say the victim is in critical condition with two gunshot wounds to the abdomen.
No suspects have been arrested, but police say they have several leads. Until then, residents must deal with the after effects.
"It's scary. I'll be honest with you, it scared me. I was up almost all night long. It scared me to death. But am I afraid of my surroundings living here? No," said Eva. "But it does make you more alert and see what's happening around you. You know, we still have to go on with life. Just hate to think that life isn't so valuable to others."
Even so, the business owner says the incident isn't a reflection of the neighborhood.
"It really is a family place," Eva said. "It's very quiet every night. I mean, there is not a night that it's really not quiet. You know, I just think it was an isolated something that just happened."
