SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - The often questionable quality of the water in the Mississippi Sound along our beaches is no secret. Water quality advisories are posted far too often. It seems to be clear that the problem is in what runs off and is dumped into the sound.
Now comes news this week that $60 million from the BP settlement will be spent targeting water quality improvement.
We agree that sewer and storm drain issues must be addressed here on the coast. The goal should be to improve the quality of the water in this vital asset for beach goers and marine life.
We hope the state moves quickly and the need for those water quality advisories all but disappears. That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to firstname.lastname@example.org.
