JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A tip led investigators to a tent behind his parents' house, and that's where deputies found John Coty Herrington sleeping Tuesday morning.
Herrington was arrested and charged with residential burglary and auto burglary related to two separate incidents, according to Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell
Ezell said a 12-year-old boy found Herrington, 25, going through the kitchen cabinets in his Old River Rd. home Monday after the family dogs started barking. Ezell said Herrington got into the house through an unlocked door.
Herrington, of Vancleave, is also accused of stealing a handgun and checkbook from a neighbor. Those items were reported missing on Oct. 15. Ezell said Herrington forged one of the checks and tried to cash it at a local bank. The stolen handgun has not been recovered.
Ezell said Herrington's bond was set at $20,000, and the Mississippi Department of Corrections also has a probation hold on him.
