OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - What should happen to almost two acres of property in the heart of downtown Ocean Springs? That was the topic of discussion at a special charrette held Monday morning, both on the property and at the Gulf Hills Hotel.
The property is owned by the Applewhite family of Ocean Springs and is currently undeveloped. However, it is kept landscaped and in pristine condition.
In the past, it has been used as a music venue for a summer concert series, and it was recently used as a music venue for Cruisin' the Coast in Ocean Springs.
About 20 people gathered for the charrette and offered their thoughts on the best use for the property.
Should amenities such as restrooms, bike racks, and walking tracks be added to the property, or should it remain as is? The answers to those questions will be coming in the next few weeks once architectural experts from Mississippi State University compile the data and input.
One thing everyone agreed on is no matter what amenities might be built on the property, it has to remain, by and large, green space.
