OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - Dozens of law enforcement officers poured into the Ocean Springs Civic Center Monday night to help honor those who protect put their lives on the line every day. Members of AGLOW International held a special banquet for the officers to thank them for their service.
"We're doing this because we really feel like it was on God's heart for us to honor the law enforcement personnel in Jackson County," said AGLOW International organizer, Leslie Lennep.
Officers from police departments in Moss Point, Gautier, Pascagoula, Ocean Springs, and the Jackson County Sheriff's department were given a delicious meal, gifts, and plenty of appreciation.
"I'm proud of what they do, and I think it's great the community recognizes what they do for us," District Attorney Tony Lawrence said. "These guys put their lives on the line day in and day out. They do a great public service for Mississippi. Law enforcement in Jackson, George, and Greene County are some of the best in the state."
Gautier Police Officer Aaron Godard was there with his entire family. He said he understands the risk of leaving home when duty calls, but is happy to walk to the thin blue line.
"It's tough, but I know my wife, children, and family are behind me 100 percent," Godard said.
The community is more than receptive.
"I support the men in blue because they sacrifice their lives here on land as soldiers do overseas. I'd like to thank this man for what he does and I support them 100 percent," said one Jackson County supporter.
Aglow International is a Christian organization made up of local chapters from around the world. The group's mission statement says members are "committed to seeing God's will done on earth as it is in Heaven."
