Grand jury to review evidence from Gulfport shooting

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A man was shot in the stomach on Cardinal Dr. in Gulfport early Monday morning. No one has been charged with the shooting, but the case is going to a grand jury for review.

Gulfport Police Department spokesman Sgt. Joshua Bromen said officers responded to the shooting around 1:45 a.m. That's where they found Steven Vincent Thomas suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Bromen said Thomas' girlfriend, Kalyne Daniels, had bruising and swelling on her head. Witnesses told officers Thomas hit Daniels before the shooting.

According to witnesses, Thomas was being violent and tried to fight people at the scene. Bromen said Thomas was then shot by Marcellas Holmes.

Thomas was taken to the hospital by ambulance to be treated for his injuries.
