New Bishop Coming To The Coast

The Catholic Diocese of Biloxi will soon have a new bishop.

Bishop Joseph Howze held a news conference on May 18th to announce his retirement and introduce his successor. Monsignor Thomas Rodi of the Archdiocese of New Orleans will become the second bishop of Biloxi at a Mass on July 2nd at Nativity Cathedral.

Bishop Howze is two years past the Vatican's retirement age of 75. He requested and received an extension in order to complete construction of the new Catholic Diocese headquarters on Popps Ferry Road.

The Catholic Diocese of Biloxi covers 17 counties in South Mississippi. The diocese includes nearly 68,000 Catholics in 44 parishes.
