GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - After a handful of delays since construction began in February, a brand-new home at 14358 Williamsburg Drive in Gulfport is now on the market.
"We're really excited. This is our first new build, which we're doing in conjunction with Gulf Coast Housing Initiative," said Reverend Dr. Alice Graham, executive director of Back Bay Mission.
Built with the help of volunteers, the three bedroom, two bath home won't go to just anyone. It will be sold to a low-income buyer who meets set requirements.
"The driving criteria is income level. This particular house we could sell to someone who has up to 120 percent of the area medium income," said Executive Director of Gulf Coast Housing Initiative Everett Lewis.
People from all over the country assisted in constructing the home.
"A lot of love and care has been taken into building it. The volunteers really take their time and dedicate their time in doing things the right way. So, we don't cut corners. We don't put lipstick on, we make sure we do it right the first time," said Craig Steenkamp.
Back Bay Mission provides services to the homeless community and the low income community with a wide range of services and a commitment to help people move forward to long term sustainability.
"It's designed for a family. We think maybe a single mother, or someone who has retired, or someone who has a minimal income," said Graham. "We've created this really wonderful space for them and it will be sold on the open market," said Graham.
