Coast Crime Commission Names It's 2000 Officer of the Year

For the first time ever one of the coast's top law enforcement honors has gone to an officer from Keesler Air Force Base. Master Sergeant Scott Buono was named the 2000 Officer of the Year at the Law Enforcement Appreciation Breakfast on Tuesday. Buono is in charge the security forces training section where he is responsible for the instruction nearly 300 military personnel. He is also a volunteer soccer coach in Ocean Springs and helps tor raise money for charity. Buono says he was surprised to win the award, and he thinks everyone in his unit is deserving of it and not just him.

Bob Waterbury of the Coast Crime Commission said "It's one of the most important things we can do to honor our law enforcement because of the great job they do day in and day out. It's unbelievable what they can get done."

The annual breakfast pays tribute to the 1,300 officers along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
