Christian Collegiate Academy taking aim on second MAIS 8-man football playoff victory

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Head coach Joe Roberts says his 5 and 5 Bulldogs experienced some misfortune during the season.  Once the playoffs got underway, Roberts says, things have cleared up and Christian Collegiate Academy is ready to face defending state champion Tallulah Academy.

The top-ranked Trojans are undefeated at 10 and 0.  One of those wins...a 61-40 victory over Christian Collegiate.

Coach Roberts said, "I feel strongly these guys had the potential all year.  We've had a few bumps in the road as far as injuries are concerned compared to last year's group."  He added, "These guys have fought through and we're sitting in a good situation right now to play the No. 1 team in the state Friday night."

To pull off an upset, senior quarterback T.J. Clolinger must shine.   He has 902 passing yards and 12 touchdowns.  On the ground, the 202 pound senior has rushed for 745 yards and a team leading 8 touchdowns.

"I feel like we're clicking at the right time, "Clolinger said.  "At the beginning of the year we had some rough games.  We weren't playing good.  Right now we're at our peak really."

Christian Collegiate senior Jay Brisco..does it all.  He's a running back resulting in 978 yards and 6 touchdowns.  He's a wide receiver, averaging 29.4 yards per catch and Brisco plays a little quarterback.

Brisco said, "When I go out there I just try to give it my best effort.  Coach is always preaching to us, no plays off...go out and give it a hundred-percent. Whether I'm at quarterback, running back or wide receiver, on defense, I try to go out there and give it my best."

Win or lose, one thing can be expected from a Joe Roberts coached dedication and effort on the football field.
