Veterans Day activities and deals

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

Friday, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day. It’s a day set aside to recognize and honor the men and women who serve or have served in the armed forces.

Veterans Day ceremonies and activities will be held this week all along the coast, and many businesses will recognize veterans and active duty military members with special discounts on Friday.

Veterans Day Events

Biloxi

  • Veterans Day Program at the Biloxi VA Medical Center starts in the recreation hall of building 17 at 10:50 a.m.

Gautier

  • Nov. 10 - Veterans Celebration at the MGCCC Jackson County Campus. Event begins at 12:30 p.m. at the flagpole in front of the Warner Peterson Administration Building. Veterans Day 5k Donation Run registration starts at 3 p.m.
  • Nov. 11 - Veterans Day laying of the wreath ceremony hosted by American Legion Post 1992 at the Veterans Tribute Tower outside city hall. Event starts at 11 a.m.

George County

  • Nov. 8 – Veterans Ceremony at MGCCC George County Center. Event begins at 1 p.m. in the lecture hall.

Gulfport

  • Nov. 10 – Veterans Day Ceremony at MGCCC Jefferson Davis Campus. Event begins at 12:30 p.m. at the Veterans Courtyard.

Kiln

  • Nov. 12 – Military Appreciation Celebration Weekend at Muddy Buddy’s ATV and Off Road. All veterans and active duty military will get free gate admission and ATV pass.

Moss Point

  • Nov. 11 – 16th Annual Jackson County Veterans Day Program starts at 11 a.m. at the Moss Point Veterans Memorial Monument downtown.

Pearl River County

  • Nov. 10 - Pearl River Community College will host its Veterans Day program at the Brownstone Center for the Arts starting at 11 a.m.

Stone County

  • Nov. 10 – Fallen Soldier 5K at MGCCC Perkinston Campus. Registration begins at 4 p.m. at the bell tower.

Veterans Day Deals (for veterans and active duty military)

  • Ajax Seafood Kitchen and Bar in Gulfport is offering a free burger and beer until 5 p.m.
  • Applebee’s restaurants will offer a free meal.
  • Chili’s restaurants will offer a free meal from a special menu.
  • Chuck E. Cheese’s restaurants will offer a free personal pizza.
  • Cracker Barrel restaurants will offer a free Double Chocolate Fudge Coca Cola Cake.
  • Denny's restaurants will offer a free Build Your Own Grand Slam from 5 a.m. to noon.
  • Golden Corral restaurants will offer a free meal and drink on Monday, Nov. 14.
  • Home Depot stores will offer a 10 percent discount on purchases.
  • Hooters restaurants will offer a free meal from an exclusive menu.
  • IHOP restaurants will offer a free stack of red, white, and blue pancakes.
  • IP Casino will offer half off at the Back Bay Buffet.
  • Krystal restaurants will offer a free sausage biscuit.
  • Little Caesar's restaurants will offer a free lunch combo. 
  • LongHorn Steakhouse restaurants are offering a free appetizer or desert with no purchase required. Guests dining out with a veteran or active duty military member will receive 10 percent off their bill.
  • Lowe’s stores will offer a 10 percent discount on purchases.
  • O’Charley’s restaurants will offer a free meal.
  • Olive Garden restaurants will offer a free entrée from a special menu.
  • Outback Steakhouse restaurants will offer a free Bloomin’ Onion with choice of a beverage, and 15 percent off for military personnel and their families from Nov. 12 – Dec. 31.
  • Red Lobster restaurants will offer a free appetizer or desert on Nov. 10 and Nov. 11.
  • Rudy Tuesday restaurants will offer a free appetizer.
  • Sports Clips will offer free haircuts from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Twin Peaks restaurants will offer a free food item from the Veterans Day Appreciation Menu.
  • Walgreens stores will offer 20 percent off eligible purchases with a Walgreens Balance Rewards card.

    There was a dancing showcase Saturday as hundreds of young women put their talent in the spotlight. The Celebration Talent regional competition was held at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum and Convention Center.
